If you're in need of a little time off, home reserve may just be for you.

The best part of home reserve for me is hanging around with this little guy. My Great Dane, Winston.
Home Reserve
Imagine how great this would be if this was your job: Your boss calls and says, "Hey, we might need you today but we might not. How about you just stay at home and play video games or work out? If we need you, we will give you a call and you will have at least two hours to show up. If not, we won't need you past such and such time so if we don't call you by whatever-o'clock, go ahead and stay in your pajamas and play video games. Oh, and by the way, we're gonna go ahead and pay you anyway."
Pretty amazing, right? That is the essence of home reserve.
So, when you are a dad and your wife works, there are pros and cons of this deal and they are as follows:
Pros:
You can workout any time you want.
You can spend all day in pajamas if you want.
You can spend time with the kids during summer. (Also see this in cons)
There is plenty of time to get stuff done around the house. (Also see in cons)
Life is pretty free and easy.
Plenty of time to study to become a better pilot in the airplane.
Cons:
You're not getting flight hours toward your upgrade. This is the major bummer.
Spending time with the kids in summer is LONG days of, "He stole my (insert name of stupid toy here)." "He hit me." "He called me a (insert childish insult here) under his breath!" All of this is gloriously intertwined with terrible gun sound FX and fart noises.
You have all kinds of time around the house which means the chores should be your responsibility when you're home to make up for when you can't help out when you're gone.
Did I mention the kids are home during summer?
You feel like your flying skills get rusty while you are sitting home.
My wife works HARD at her job and I feel guilty that I am not doing as much.
The paycheck can end up being less when you aren't flying due to a lack of "per diem," which I will cover at another time.
That's the short version of it all. I will check in tomorrow for #wingviewwednesday
