Layovers Gone Wrong

What not to do on layovers...
First and foremost, I am cheap. Like, crazy cheap. I get angry when my wife buys her umpteenth tank top or newest piece of OrangeTheory swag because in my opinion, its worthless and doesn't make our life any better. I'm a 90 year old trapped in a 40 year old's body who constantly rants about how damn expensive things are now a days.
So, when I have layovers, I try to go have fun but spend as little money as possible. First Officer pay is pretty rough when you're the new guy at the airlines.
I recently had a layover in LA and thought how great it would be if I could save $25 and walk to the nearest Orangetheory in Santa Monica instead of taking an Uber.
My wife is a very smart woman and she knows almost everything about fitness. After she had done the workout, I remember she had told me that it was one of the toughest ones ever at OT that day.
So about 3 miles in to my walk she calls me and asks what I'm up to. I casually mention that I am walking to OT to do the workout. She asks me how far that is and I sheepishly tell her. "Oh, about 12 miles or so." She replies, "12 MILES? Do you have a death wish? So, you are going to walk almost a half marathon to then run 2.5 miles and do weight room blocks as well?"
Well, I guess I didn't really think of it like that. My ego was like, "Bro, you've got this, you're a badass! You could do that whole thing twice if needed. You're an animal! She OBVIOUSLY does not know how awesome you are!"
Karen: 1
Ego: 0
I am, no longer, an animal. I got about 10 miles in, and I had to Bird Scooter the rest of the way because I thought my feet were gonna fall off and my shins may be broken.
I got to OT Santa Monica and I did the workout and yet again, Karen was right. It was one of the hardest workouts I have ever done.
I walked out of Orange. Shins in pain, seeing stars from lack of nutrition, a limping, sweaty, broken pile of human. It was rough. But guess what?!?!?
I saved $25 on an Uber.
I did end up losing my favorite pair of sunglasses that were the only splurge I have made in years after two weeks but...
I saved $25 on an Uber.
Key Points:
Sunscreen is important BEFORE you walk 12 miles. My arms and back of neck were fried!!
12 miles is FAR!!!
No matter what, I have the best job in the world and love my life.
and oh yeah, I SAVED $25 ON AN UBER!!!
